View our full list of latest news stories HSE inspectors will be visiting farms across the country this month to ensure risks during building maintenance are being controlled. As a result we are reminding farmers to take simple steps to avoid, or manage, risk when carrying out building maintenance.
The initiative comes after the latest HSE statistics show that in 2016/17 there have been 27 deaths and 13 000 non-fatal injuries to workers in Great Britain's agriculture, forestry and fishing sectors. Find out more about the upcoming inspections here. | Our current inspections in the food manufacturing industry are targeting the causes of workplace ill health. One of the most frequent in this sector is Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs). These mainly comprise of work-related upper limb disorders (WRULDs) from repetitive tasks and back injuries from repetitive or awkward lifting.
These two disorders account for 58% of occupational ill health cases in the food and drink manufacturing industry.
