View our full list of news stories Lone workers can be at greater risk of harm as they may not have anyone to help them if things go wrong. Employers should provide training, supervision, monitoring and support for those working alone. Our revised leaflet is for anyone who employs lone workers, or engages them as contractors etc, including self-employed people or those who work at home. It has been updated to include advice on work-related violence, keeping in touch, and the impact of lone working on stress and mental health. The leaflet is supported by lone working webpages which include advice aimed at lone workers themselves. Rick Brunt, Head of HSE's Operational Strategy Division, said: 'This is an important piece of guidance which has been updated as the number of lone workers increases across all sectors, it will help employers manage risks and keep lone workers healthy and safe.' | Our simple advice on the basic duties of any business will make it easier for you to comply with the law and manage health and safety in your workplace. 'Health and safety made simple' offers guidance on the basic legal duties, whatever industry you work in. There are step-by-step guides on health and safety topics including: | Can you help us in a new shared research project? HSE is seeking project partners to fund a programme of work packages designed to establish an evidence base to optimise offshore working patterns. Over recent years, shift rotas have changed significantly on the UK Continental Shelf, leading to varied working arrangements. Further research is needed into the effects of longer offshore tours of duty to develop an evidence base for further industry guidance. In October 2019, HSE held a workshop in Aberdeen to discuss the options for shared research regarding optimising offshore working patterns.
