Work-related stress, worker wellbeing and mental health

HSE has resources to help employers support staff with work-related stress and mental health conditions.

Planning, training and support can all reduce pressure and bring stress levels down. 

 

Our guidance can help you support employee mental health by managing work-related stress.

 

It includes a guide to spotting signs of stress, as well as a link to our downloadable talking tool kit, which can help employers plan conversations with workers and prevent stress in the changing working environment.

 

We also have also advice for line managers to help them support any workers with mental health conditions.

HSE safety alert issued

HSE has issued a safety alert highlighting the risk of misleading gas detection readings associated with the use of sampling tubes with pumped gas detectors. 

In a recent incident a gas detector failed to detect the presence of a flammable vapour. Hot work proceeded in the belief that there was no flammable vapour present.

 

The subsequent explosion resulted in a fatal injury.

Gas Safety Week 2020

Gas Safety Week is the 10th annual event and is taking place this week, 14-20 September 2020.

Gas Safety Week is a national safety campaign to raise awareness of gas safety in the UK.

 

By pledging your support for GSW20, you can receive a free toolkit full of material designed to help you support the week.

 

Another way of increasing the reach of GSW2020 is to follow on Twitter where you can help spread the word by sharing social media posts. You can also view a short film The Ripple Effect. 

 

HSE also has plenty of guidance for employers and workers on our gas safety website, and there is specific advice on gas safety during the coronavirus pandemic.


Facilities management company fined after an employee was crushed

A facilities management company have been fined £200,000 after an employee was seriously injured.

The employee suffered serious injuries when they were crushed between a ride-on-roller and shipping container during footpath improvement works. Read the full press release here.
