I built 1.1.17 which worked, changelog pointed me at
"remove endianness macro, fixes #6105"[0] which in fact broke sparc64.
Reverting this PR on top of 1.1.18 fixes it, haven't tried 1.2.2 yet.
I'll see what upstream does, maybe they come up with a fix, maybe we
just revert their PR and test our big-endian builds?
The issue that triggered this happened on "PPC", but sthen reports that
the our current in-tree 1.1.18 version *does* work on macppc for him...
