Surely the maintainer already decided that when setting it up the way
it's done now - and more to the point, that is nowwhat users of the
OpenBSD package expect.

Having to compile according to your preference is just the reality when
dealing with software like this that has intentionally decided that
requiring a recompile to configure it is a good idea.

You can always run dwm with PATH set to include a dir with a symlink
from xterm -> st (or whichever other terminal emulator you prefer)
ahead of /usr/X11R6/bin.
