If X apps start slowly, it's hardly because wm wasn't started automaticaly
or you did not specify a xorg.conf
Does neovim also start slowly on the console?
(ctrl + alt + f1)
A full dmesg and a full Xorg.log might give some clues
- maybe your X is using some suboptimal driver.
