Unless people hit a blocking bug, I will commit this update soon, so
you'll get to test it anyway.

This is not the process used for most software in the ports tree. Why
wouldn't a straight update to emacs-26.1 be a good approach? I don't
want to go back to multiple (recent) emacs versions in the ports tree.
If you truly care about having a working emacs setup, give this diff
a try and report back.
