why do you strip the first path component? What do you want to achieve?
Strip 'admin'? And serve '/path/to/my/site/index.php'?
Are you sure that the file exists?
What is in the log (tail -f /var/www/logs/*.log)
maybe the 'directory index' in '/path/to/my/site' is set to
'index.html'?
