Electricity is a familiar and necessary part of everyday life, but electricity can kill or severely injure people and cause damage to property. There are simple precautions that you can take when working with, or near electricity that will significantly reduce the risk of electrical injury to you and others around you. Our poster on Electric Shock First Aid gives basic advice on first-aid procedures if someone has an electric shock at work. On 6 September we host the HSE Inspectors Guide to Electrical Safety course, that will give you a practical understanding of what our inspectors are looking for in the control of general electrical safety risks. Employers have duties concerning the provision and use of personal protective equipment (PPE) at work. PPE is equipment that will protect the user against health or safety risks at work. It can include items such as safety helmets, gloves, eye protection, high-visibility clothing, safety footwear and safety harnesses. It also includes respiratory protective equipment (RPE).
