You can view guidance at our construction website.   A Manchester-based roofer recently received a £4 600 fine, 240 hours of community service and a suspended prison sentence for failing to implement any form of edge protection or scaffolding whilst the roofing work was carried out.     You can also keep upto date with this sector by signing up to our construction eBulletin. Annual workplace fatalities 144 workers were killed in 2017-18 (RIDDOR). Provisional annual data for work-related fatal injuries shows that 144 workers were fatally injured in Britain between April 2017 and March 2018 (a rate of 0.45 per 100 000 workers). 38 fatal injuries to construction workers were recorded, accounting for the largest share of any industry, while the most common cause of fatal injury was workers falling from height (35).
