A civil engineering contractor has been fined £600,000 after an employee of Balfour Beatty Group Employment Limited was fatally injured when struck on the body by a wheeled excavator.

Falls from height - the leading cause of workplace deaths

Falls from height were the cause of most work-related fatalities in Britain during 2017/18.

The latest annual figures (2017/18) revealed that 35 workers were killed in falls from height last year.

Work shouldn't be a pain... prevent repetitive strain injuries

International Repetitive Strain Injury Awareness Day is marked this week.

Thursday 28 February marked International Repetitive Strain Injury Awareness Day, the perfect time to think about the main causes of work-related musculoskeletal disorders - manual handling, awkward or tiring positions and keyboard work or repetitive action.

 

We have updated guidance and a series of resources on manual handling training methods at our Go Home Healthy website, encouraging employers to look at different options when managing the risks of MSDs.

Last week over 500 delegates from across the country attended our HSE Connect conference...

The Expo in Birmingham was packed to capacity for a free-to-attend day of lectures, seminars, exhibitions and workshops.

 

Speakers included HSE's Chair Martin Temple and Acting Chief Executive Dr David Snowball, while delegates were able to create a personalised agenda from over 100 sessions focusing on four key themes: Making health manageable; The changing face of health and safety; Insights from incidents; and Health and safety made simple.
