For all the latest health and safety updates visit our website | | | This week marks a year since we entered the first national lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic, one of the one of the most challenging periods for generations. HSE's Chair Sarah Newton reflects on the last 12 months in her blog, which includes HSE's contribution to the government's response to the COVID-19 pandemic It is just as important today that employers and businesses ensure they are implementing the right controls to stop the spread of COVID-19, as it was a year ago. HSE has published a range of coronavirus related guidance and information, to help you keep your workplace COVID-secure, including: | HSE has published updated guidance on health and safety for gig economy, agency and temporary workers. The gig economy is growing, and the ways people work are changing, so employers need to think differently about how to keep workers healthy and safe. Our guidance for employers includes an overview of why employers should take account of gig economy, agency and temporary workers. This is supported by guidance for workers, which sets out their responsibilities and how their employer should protect them. There are also links to relevant advice for specific sectors, including agriculture, construction, hospitality, cleaning and transport/logistics. Drayton Manor Park Ltd (in administration) has been sentenced and fined £1 million following the death of a schoolgirl on its Splash Canyon water ride in 2017. Other recent enforcement news includes: Hand-arm vibration syndrome (HAVS) can be caused by using hand-held power tools for prolonged periods of time.
