AFAIR nVidia cards are not well supported by Xorg anymore - you
might want to search the mailing list archive for details.
I bought some (used/old) ATi cards instead, e.g.,
ATI Radeon HD 7350, HD 3450, X1550
which work fairly well (at least for my purposes).
