Re: OT: Github requiring 2FA auth, meaning

Hello,

Firstly OpenBSD is not proactively used by OpenBSD, it is simply a
mirror from the CVS VCS over to git, which is more comfortable for some
people. So there is no real "moving" needed for the majority of OpenBSD.

Secondly, have you only just realised how bad Github is?

I would have thought anyone who had any care about their code or privacy
would have jumped from Github during the Microsoft takeover, or even
worse, when Github Copilot was announced, a concept of training a
proprietary product on open source code, how nice of open source
developers to give their code to train an AI for all the soydevs out
there who would rather try to get an AI to code for them, so that they
can rack up as much income as possible without giving a flying fuck
about the code they are producing.

That is what I believe differentiates open source and proprietary
products, those who code for open source are those who are passionate
about programming, those who code proprietary products are only
passionate about a big number in their paycheck. I have met people who
aspire to work at FAANG, and they do not enjoy coding, its more of a
chore like education, "I got to do this because it earns me money".

Gitea (or Forjo since gitea is now a private limited company, without
ever asking its userbase before incorporation, and like most corporate
entity, limited liability is a free card to fuck over their userbases)
are strong competitors. Even Gitlab has a self hosted edition, but I
would take it as a pinch of salt because I don't trust Gitlab in the
slightest.

But like I said, OpenBSD uses CVS (unless this has changed?) so why
would it matter?

Note: I still have a Github account, but as I make it abundantly clear,
I will only contribute to projects on Github, I will not push any of my
code to Github for obvious reasons!

Hope this helps,
