Good morning,
Curious if anyone has insight into this particular issue:
I have a 2012 HP EliteBook with only experimental UEFI support so want to use BIOS booting. I wrote the install74.img file to an 8Gb thumbdrive. It will only boot sometimes; other times booting results in an almost immediate reset. On one successful boot I installed on a separate 64Gb thumbdrive with encrypted root and otherwise default settings in the installer (using MBR rather than GPT partitions). Attempting to boot from this second thumbdrive always hangs or resets either before or during softraid initialization at the boot prompt.
Acting on a hunch that the problem with the installer thumbdrive might be relic GPT backup data at the end of the device, I zeroed out the last several megabytes, with no noticeable change in behaviour.
(As a side note, the install74.img thumbdrive will boot reliably using UEFI, and from that I can successfully boot the 64Gb thumbdrive. But as stated I would like to avoid using UEFI if possible.)
Any insights would be appreciated. Thanks very much!
Nathan Carruth
