Generally: lots of self-teaching and learning by trial-and-error.
Atheros/Qualcomm: There is already some work on newer ath10k and ath11k
but they are complicated devices (especially 11k) and taking many months
of work by experienced developers to get to a state where they can even
just do basic comms with the device. I doubt there is much you can do
to help at this stage.
Graphics: Likely to be way more difficult than wifi.
