I continue to be baffled as to what is going on with this USB GNSS
receiver. On the sole machine, nothing changes from the hardware
perspective with usb ports, etc. TL;DR: the BSDs don't work, but linux
does.
I installed OpenBSD 7.7 on the same hardware and it now behaves just
like 7.8, wherein it sees the receiver as a usb hub, not a receiver.
I installed FreeBSD 14.3, kldload uplcom, and it sees the receiver as a
usb hub, not a receiver. Probably not too much of a surprise given
uplcom and such come from the same NetBSD base code years ago.
I installed arch linux and it sees the receiver correctly and I have a
working gpsd.
The hardware has not changed, not even moving the USB receiver between
USB-A reports.
Everything worked for years from OpenBSD 7.4 to 7.7, and stopped at 7.8
and now doesn't work at all in BSDs.
I may just punt and buy a GNSS serial receiver and move on with life,
or suffer the slings and arrows of using arch linux as a time server.
