Hard to tell without more data.

What kinds of connections do you see (protocol, to/from port and address)?

Do any of these addresses or ports correspond with something in your config,
such as the nameservers listed in your /etc/resolv.conf, time service (take
a peek in /etc/ntpd.conf)?

Did you by any chance enable a service that for some reason or other needs to
communicate with linode hosts?

A little more data would be helpful in tracking down the cause.

That said, more likely than not it's something you set up yourself that
for some reason speaks to something that lives in linode's network.

All the best,
Peter
