Modern hardware has enough RAM to be able to theoretically run without swap.

If you don't need to hibernate, disabling swap to save NVRAM sounds reasonable to me.

So far so good SSH daemon hasn't crashed with the swap partition enabled. As you mention it would be interesting to know or understand why some processes get killed without a swap partition on arm64. My Raspberry Pi has 4 GB which should be plenty enough for a typicall firewall usage.
