xenodm uses your .xsession to set up your session rather than your .profile, so you want to source your .profile in there and then you should be good to go (after logging out and in again). Just throw this:
```
. .profile
```
at the top of your .xsession file.

```
openbsd$ cat .profile
# $OpenBSD: dot.profile,v 1.8 2022/08/10 07:40:37 tb Exp $
#
# sh/ksh initialization
PATH=$HOME/bin:/bin:/sbin:/usr/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/X11R6/bin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/local/sbin
export PATH HOME TERM
export HISTFILE=~/.ksh_history
export LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8
export ENV=$HOME/.kshrc
export PATH=$HOME/bin:/usr/local/bin:$PATH
```
and
```
openbsd$ cat .kshrc
alias ll='ls -lh'
alias vim='nvim'
#PS1='$$\e[32m$$\u@\h$$\e[33m$$ \w$$\e[0m$$ $ '
openbsd$
```
