You might want to look at other go ports having similar issues, ie
grafana, telegraf & influxdb.. there's a "special" target to create a
full tarball with sources for the vendored dependencies when upstream
doesnt care about doing things correctly. Yes, it's convoluted &
complicated, but it works.
